2011, Performance. Duration: two weeks.
During a hospital visit I was surprised to discover that, due to the threat of spreading disease, it is no longer permitted for visitors to take flowers to patients. In response, I carried a bouquet of flowers with me everywhere I went for two weeks, until the flowers had died.
At first carrying the bouquet made me appear and feel romantic, as though I were on the way to an exciting assignation. As the flowers began to wilt and die so the performance gradually shifted in emphasis, and I noticed dead bouquets of flowers attached to public railings where street accidents or murder had been commemorated, and the act took on a mournful aspect.
At times during the work I felt a heightened sense of my environment.
